Cross Section Invitation Suite

Cross sections are standard geologic diagrams, which view the earth as if it were cut open and seen from the side. Different types of rocks, their constitution and internal structure, and the geometric relationship between them are represented. Each color and pattern represents a different type or age of rock, shown on the back of the invite. Geologic cross sections are the basis for planning engineering works and for the exploration and production of geological resources. These cross sections of the Williamsville, Virginia quadrangle were created by the United States Geological Society in 1962. (The labels have been removed, but can be included on your version if you wish.)
