About Amanda Mayer

Amanda grew up surrounded by both science and art.  Her father was a systems and control engineer until he retired, and is now a working artist – painting large portraits.  He always expressed an insatiable passion for both science and art and taught Amanda from an early age.  Captivated by biology, she graduated from M.I.T. with a Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Ph.D. in Genetic Toxicology.  While research was exciting, it felt too isolated, so her career took a turn into educational outreach, developing science curriculum for secondary schools and colleges.  The development process included graphic design of educational materials, which she absolutely loved, as it blended science with art.

When Amanda got engaged, she decided to design her own wedding invitation suite.  She was so inspired by the process, she wanted to continue designing wedding invitations.  In researching ideas for invitation sets, Amanda kept gravitating towards scientific subjects and noticed a conspicuous lack of sophisticated scientific wedding invitations.  Having extensive experience blending graphic design and science, Amanda had found her calling and has been happily designing scientific invitations since.
